THE ANDEAN DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (CAF), THE CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (CIDA) AND THE OAS IN SUPPORT OF THE REGION’S MUNICIPAL DEVELOPMENT
Through an operative Agreement between the OAS, CIDA and CAF signed last month in Washington DC, CAF pledged the first $295,800 of a total of $595,000 in support of the Efficient and Transparent Municipalities (MuNet) initiative. CAF’s contribution, added to the $595,000 already confirmed by the OAS at the beginning of 2004, brings the total amount to almost $1.2 million to help leverage private sector support and municipal counterparts that will increase the program’s resources to $5 million.
MuNet is the result of a previous CAF-OAS program started in 2002. MuNet is designed to support municipalities in the Andean and Central American regions improve citizen services and increase efficiency and transparency through the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) as modernization tools. MuNet focuses on electronic government as well as in cadastre and property registry.
Over the next two years, MuNet will work closely with participating municipalities to:
• Train of leaders in electronic government and cadastre;
• Assist in the implementation of municipal e-government strategies;
• Provide access to municipal level best practices in e-government and cadastre;
• Support in the implementation of cadastre and e-government solutions;
• Share the government procurement electronic portal.
